Behavior Patterns
Circular spread revealing repetitive cycles and how to break them
Purpose This spread invokes The Wheel of Fortune (Major Arcana X)—the eternal cycle of repetition until lessons are learned and patterns broken. In tarot philosophy, repetitive behaviors signal the Wheel stuck in one position: we circle through the same experiences until we find the BREAKING_CYCLE key that allows evolution. The 6-card circular layout physically represents this cycle, with three pattern positions forming the wheel's rim, ROOT_CAUSE as the hub, BREAKING_CYCLE as the lever to shift it, and NEW_PATTERN as the evolved destination. Death (Major Arcana XIII) energy flows through BREAKING_CYCLE—necessary endings for new beginnings.
When to use it When you notice the same situations repeatedly appearing in your life—similar relationship dynamics, recurring work conflicts, repeated financial struggles, or any 'here we go again' experiences. Ideal for understanding habitual reactions, addiction patterns, or generational behaviors you may have inherited. Use when ready to understand not just what you do, but why you keep doing it.
When to avoid it Avoid when you need immediate behavioral change rather than understanding—this spread provides insight, not intervention. Not suitable during active addiction without professional support, or when the pattern involves harm to self or others requiring immediate cessation. Skip when you want validation for continuing problematic behaviors.
How to read it Read the three PATTERN positions as the cycle's recurring elements—they may show the same situation manifesting in different life areas (same card different positions) or different aspects of one pattern. ROOT_CAUSE reveals the original wound or belief that started the wheel spinning. BREAKING_CYCLE is the key insight or action needed—often the card most different from the patterns. NEW_PATTERN shows what replaces the old cycle. Look for Wheel of Fortune, Death, or The Tower in BREAKING_CYCLE as signs of transformation readiness.
How the positions relate The three PATTERN positions reveal the cycle's variations—same core issue appearing in different guises
ROOT_CAUSE and BREAKING_CYCLE show the illness and its cure—what started it and what stops it
BREAKING_CYCLE and NEW_PATTERN show the transformation bridge—from interruption to integration
