Synthesis: Putting It All Together

Advanced astro-tarot means synthesizing all the layers you've learned: signs, planets, houses, aspects, and lunar cycles.

The Four Layers

When interpreting a tarot card astrologically:

  1. Element (Fire/Earth/Air/Water)
  2. Zodiac Sign or Planet (specific energy)
  3. House (life area, if using positional spreads)
  4. Aspects (relationships to other cards)

Example: The Emperor

  • Card: The Emperor (Major Arcana IV)
  • Zodiac: Aries ♈ (Cardinal Fire)
  • Planet: Mars ♂ (action, will, aggression)
  • Element: Fire (passion, initiative, energy)
  • House: Natural ruler of 1st House (self, identity)

Synthesis: The Emperor represents assertive leadership, pioneering action, and initiating force. When this card appears, Mars energy is active—time to take charge and lead with confidence.

Reading with Multiple Cards

Three of Swords + The Empress

Individual meanings:

  • Three of Swords: Heartbreak, mental pain (Air of Swords, Libra)
  • The Empress: Abundance, nurturing (Venus, Taurus)

Aspect relationship: Air (Swords) □ Earth (Empress) = Square

Synthesis: Emotional pain (3 Swords) creates tension with self-care needs (Empress). The square demands action: balance mental anguish with physical nurturing. Venus (Empress) can heal through beauty, nature, sensual comfort.

Creating Astrological Spreads

Use astrological structure to design spreads:

Zodiac Wheel Spread (12 cards):

  • Place cards in circle like zodiac wheel
  • Each position = house meaning
  • Read aspects between positions

Planetary Powers Spread (7 cards):

  1. Sun ☉: Core identity, purpose
  2. Moon ☽: Emotions, intuition
  3. Mercury ☿: Communication, thought
  4. Venus ♀: Love, values, pleasure
  5. Mars ♂: Action, desire, conflict
  6. Jupiter ♃: Growth, expansion, luck
  7. Saturn ♄: Structure, lessons, limits

Timing with Astrology

Use planetary and lunar cycles for timing:

  • New Moon: Start new projects
  • Full Moon: Completion, revelation
  • Mercury Retrograde: Review, revise, don't start new
  • Venus Retrograde: Re-evaluate relationships and values

Synthesis is about seeing the whole picture, not just isolated parts.
