Sacred Calling

Purpose This spread explores spiritual vocation through the archetype of the Wounded Healer - the ancient shamanic and Chiron-based understanding that our deepest wounds become our greatest gifts to offer others. The structure draws from the 'Hero's Journey' (Joseph Campbell) and the mystical concept of 'charism' - spiritual gifts given for service. The Hierophant (V) governs this spread as teacher and transmitter of sacred knowledge. The eight positions map: the call itself, wounds that prepared you, gifts bestowed, whom you serve, how you serve, initiations endured, support gathered, and ripple impact. This is the bodhisattva path of awakening through service.

When to use it Use when feeling called to spiritual service but unsure of form or direction. Valuable when exploring ministry, healing arts, teaching, counseling, or any vocation felt as divinely guided. Also appropriate when questioning your purpose, wondering if your suffering has meaning, or seeking to understand how your unique path prepares you to help others.

When to avoid it Avoid when seeking career advice for purely material reasons - this spread assumes a spiritual dimension to work. Not appropriate when wounds are too fresh to be seen as gifts (allow healing first), when ego rather than service drives the question, or when seeking validation rather than genuine direction. Also avoid if not ready to consider that suffering may have purpose.

How to read it Begin with Divine Call - what are you being called to do? The Hierophant here indicates teaching; the High Priestess suggests healing mysteries; Temperance indicates integration work. Sacred Wounds reveals your 'medicine' - your pain that becomes your healing gift (Chiron principle). Spiritual Gifts shows innate abilities for this work. Who You Serve identifies your soul clients - Court cards indicate specific populations. How You Serve shows methodology. Initiation reveals the trial that qualified you. Support System shows allies and resources. Impact reveals the ripple effect of answering your calling.
