The Year Card Through the Seasons
How your year colours its shorter cycles
The Year Card Through the Seasons
A Year Card is a slow light. It does not switch on and off from day to day — it colours the whole twelve months softly, like the tint of a season. The shorter cycles of your life still turn beneath it, and the art is to feel how the year's archetype flavours each of them.
The big cycle and the small cycles
Think of your Year Card as the key a piece of music is written in. The melody — your months, your moons, your days — keeps moving, but everything is heard against that key. A decision in March and a decision in October may feel different on the surface, yet both carry a faint family resemblance: the fingerprint of this year's card.
You do not need to force the connection. Simply, every so often, ask: how is this month wearing my Year Card? An Empress year might feel like nurturing in spring and harvesting in autumn — the same archetype, dressed for the season.
Where the lunar cycle comes in
The month-by-month and moon-by-moon rhythms deserve their own study, and they have it: the Moon Powers course in this Learn hub covers the lunar phases, the seasonal wheel and how to time readings by them. This lesson is not the place to repeat that — instead, notice how the two layers meet.
A practical way to feel it: when you set intentions at the new moon (as the Moon Powers course teaches), read them through your Year Card. In a Star year, new-moon intentions might lean toward healing and hope; in a Chariot year, toward drive and direction. The lunar cycle sets the timing; the Year Card sets the theme. Together they make your practice both rhythmic and personal.
Anchoring the year in its seasons
A gentle structure many readers enjoy:
- At your birthday — meet the new Year Card and name its theme.
- Each season — ask how the card is expressing itself now.
- At each new moon — let the card colour your intentions.
- Near your next birthday — look back and thank the card for what it taught.
None of this is prediction. It is attention — a way of staying in conversation with your own life. The Year Card gives the long, warm through-line; the seasons and moons give the texture. Let them work together, and the year stops being a blur of weeks and becomes a story with a theme you can actually feel.
