Working With Your Cards Daily
Small, steady practices with your own cards
Knowing your Personality, Soul and Year cards is only the beginning. Their value grows through a quiet, repeated relationship — not through a single dramatic insight. Mary K. Greer frames the personal cards as lifelong companions, and the simplest way to keep that company is a short daily practice.
Contemplation. Keep a printed or physical copy of your Personality and Soul cards where you can see them. Once a day, rest your eyes on one for a minute or two. Notice a detail you had not seen before — a colour, a gesture, where a figure is looking. Ask a single open question: What is this card showing me today? You are not decoding a message; you are letting the image keep working on you.
Journaling. Pair the looking with a few written lines. On days that feel knotted, sit with your Personality card — the face you meet the world with — and write how it showed up. On quieter, more inward days, turn to your Soul card and ask what it is asking of you underneath the surface. Greer's exercises in Tarot for Your Self are built on exactly this: writing to and from the card in the first person.
The Year card as an anchor. Your Year card names the season you are actually living. Write it at the top of your journal, or set it as a small reminder. When a week feels shapeless, return to it: How is this year's theme moving through what just happened? The Year card will not predict events, but it gives them a frame — a recurring question to hang the months on.
Keep it light. Five minutes is plenty; a missed day is not a failure. The point is a slow familiarity, so that when you later read for yourself in a spread, your cards already feel like people you know.
Guided meditations live in the Meditations course. If you want a structured,
guided journey into a card, use those sessions — then bring your own
Personality, Soul or Year card to them instead of a random draw. This lesson is
only about the daily habit; the Meditations course is where the deeper inner
work is taught.
